"I have been a professional studio potter for over 40 years, working primarily in functional high-fired stoneware and porcelain. For 35 years, I was a craft gallery owner in Northern New York, and also had my work featured in dozens of gallery shows around the country. Now living in Chatham County, I work in a studio I recently built behind my house, exploring colors and techniques in clay and glaze, many of which I have never done before. It is exciting to experiment in entirely new forms; I have recently created totem garden sculptures for the outdoors.
My works receive their inspiration and nourishment from the natural beauty of the environments in which I live, and the land has influenced the types of work I do. Though I have fired hundreds of kiln loads during my career, every time I open a kiln I am awed by the magical transformations found inside. It is amazing to see how clay, the most mundane of natural materials, can emerge from the kiln as an enduring object of beauty.
In addition to my pottery skills, I have experience in merchandising, setting up gallery displays, as well as the skills developed having renovated a number of old buildings."
